Luxury Family Holidays without the Price Tag

We would all like to go on a luxury holiday, but this is often just a dream that is brought to an abrupt end when you think about the price tag that comes with it. No one needs reminding that these are tough economic times and spending less on a holiday might well be a good way of making your finances a little easier, but why should you scrimp on the quality of your holiday if you don’t have to? There are plenty of luxury holidays out there that don’t cost the earth; all you have to do is find them!

First of all decide what you – and the rest of your family – want from your holiday and then prioritise which are essentials and what you’ll compromise on, if the price is right. It might sound obvious, but doing this before you start looking will make it easier to filter out unsuitable options.
When you know what you’re looking for turn to the internet. Like shopping for anything, taking some time to shop around online is one sure fire way of bringing the price down. Shopping online has many benefits; companies know that you are directly comparing them to their competitors and so give you the best deal in order to try and persuade you to book with them. Another advantage of this is that you can look up combinations of flights and hotels (and often car hire too) which, if booked together, can usually reduce fees or become a better deal. Just take the time to put in different combinations of flights and hotels and see what the best deals are.
You can get a great deal by following the above steps, but it’s worth remembering that there’s more out there than Europe and Disneyland. Broadening your horizons a little might be what you need to transform a luxury break into the holiday of a lifetime. Going to a country with a good exchange rate is one way of getting more for your money, whilst they may be further away, places such as Thailand or South Africa can offer some great hotels at fantastic prices (especially away from hotspots like Bangkok or Cape Town). Destinations that are not immediately obvious will also often offer great deals, especially if you book far in advance, places like Barbados or Dubai can be the ultimate in luxury, but also affordable. Also remember that luxury doesn’t have to mean the beach – city breaks can give your family everything from theatres to museums, theme parks to monuments and so much more, they also often can be a great deal if you look out for discounts on city-wide attraction passes and luxury hotel deals.

There are other simple things that can bring the price of luxury down, like booking at the right time of year (companies often have sales during quiet periods, or have one of deals advertised in the media), or taking the risk of not booking until the last minute and seeing what late deals are out there. Being on mailing lists for your favourite travel companies can also be very helpful as many send out exclusive members-only deals, or let you know of sales in advance. Whatever you do, don’t drop that idea of a luxury holiday just yet – take a good look around, you’ll be surprised by just what is out there for those who look!
